No, He Was 17 When He Started…

To the oldtimers, his story is enough to make us cry.  At 17 years of age, he paid $70 for a website, and over the years, that site has made him over $3 million!  It wasn’t all roses and daffodils, though, I mean he had a $34k day that he probably won’t forget.

So who is this guy?

He’s the man!

Ken McArthur brought everyone to tears in the closing moments of jvAlert Live West in Long Beach, California when he told everyone how much he cares about everyone who attends.  He was choked up as he said the reason he does jvAlert Live is for the attendees.

First of all you have to look at this man - take a good look.  He is the one who is in the hotel lobby as soon as he has unpacked, and he’ll stay there until the last attendee has gone up to their room. 

Why?

Just in case.  Ken does not want anyone to leave jvAlert Live unsatisfied.  I remember a jvAlert Live in Orlando, when I couldn’t afford to go, I didn’t know anyone but a couple of people who were entirely too busy to spend time with me.  I couldn’t blame them, they had vision enough to act on their dreams and they networked to bring their business ideas in front of as many people as they could.  I watched people shooting videos, taping interviews and planning products.  My problem then was that I just watched, but Ken kept me in the game, he would come by and ask me what he could do for me, and in my shyness, I constantly told him that he was already doing it.  Even in those days, I was gaining more confidence, and before the weekend was over I had made a few key contacts that made me feel even more confident.

It was strange, because some of the things I was doing during that Orlando jvAlert Live was helping to hand out papers that the guests needed, registering people, getting them to sign the audio/video releases so I was getting myself out in front of a lot of people.  Then I heard that Mike Filsaime was flying in and I volunteered to drive to the airport and pick him up.  It is when you give of yourself, that you grow, and I missed a lot of speakers as I drove to the airport and picked up Mike Filsaime and one of his assistants.  I really don’t know if Mike would remember me if he ever saw me again, but I was impressed by Mike’s friendly demeanor and his wonder at how far he had gone in the 3 years since he had decided to build a business online.

We arrived at the Hotel in well after 9PM, which meant that we had to rush Mike into the Infoproduct Blueprint special session where Mike, Ken, Gary Ambrose and Sterling Valentine told us about their history of product creation.  I remember thinking to myself how it was amazing that I was in the room with these guys, learning their secrets to becoming the marketing successes that they were.

jvAlert Live is the event!

I heard a few people comment about how different jvAlert Live is from all other events they have ever attended.  In fact, some of the people who had attended the World Internet Main Event in San Francisco the previous month marveled at how much the people who attended jvAlert Live cared about each other.  Their experience at WIME apparently had jaded them, because they felt that “the gurus” pretty much hung out in cliques and if you weren’t part of the “in” crowd, you stayed out of most of the networking.

I ate dinner with Glen Hopkins, Glenn Dietzel, David Watkins, Dan Kelly, Kathe Lucas, Brenda Rougeau, Frank Sousa, Ken McArthur, Dr. Mike Woo Ming and Jeff Wellman.  These people were not snobs by any stretch of the imagination.  I had the opportunity to talk to all of these people and we discussed much more than just business.  The coolest part of shooting the breeze with them is finding out how we are all the same even though we are at different levels.  We all have a dream, and we all enjoy helping others.

Dr. Mike is a man of character - he is very active in the area of autistic children, something that he can do something about now that he has freed up his time from having a general practice - but he is also a character, joking and not taking himself too seriously (something that we all need to do).  When he spoke at the event, he delivered more than an hour of solid, actionable content.  In fact, every single speaker at the event gave so much actionable information that I am praying that the videos we took of the event are available soon.  It is hard taking notes when you are working an event.

Glen Hopkins is one of the guys who was instrumental in the transition of my business with the release of Lucrative List Building last year.  If I had not purchased that book, I would probably not have nearly the success with my own list building efforts that I currently have.  Reading that book took me from hobbyist to businessman.  I got to spend a lot of time with Glen and he offered to help me with my Infoproduct Lab, which delighted me, since my goal coming into this weekend was to add value to my product creation membership site.

The most awesome thing I got from this weekend was the help of a group of people that made my life so much easier.  My mission at jvAlert Live this weekend included making sure the event went without a hitch.  I was in charge of the event, so that Ken could concentrate on helping everyone that needed it.  I really felt that if Ken had to deal with details, I wasn’t doing my job. 

Let me tell you.  I was given the best crew of people to help me that anyone could have wished for.  Everyone worked so hard to make sure that everyone was taken care of.

The legend of the couch!

Back when Ken was a young Affiliate Showcase mastermind and he had launched jvAlert with Sid Hale, he decided to gather some of the friends he had made in jvAlert and asked them out to lunch, and to his amazement, he got a great response.  So he decided to put on a gathering at a hotel for the birth of jvAlert Live! 

During that fateful jvAlert Live, Ken found himself on a couch with a couple of other marketers in the wee hours of the morning.  Discussions and dreams and ideas swirled all around that couch, and Ken could see that this was the start of something bigger. 

So now, at every jvAlert Live, in the hotel lobby, you will find Ken and a group of marketers around the magic couch as more ideas swirl about them and huge plans become reality over the coming months.

So where were you?

OK. So those dreams around the couch won’t do you any good if you aren’t there to take part in the magic.  I have it under good authority that this February, jvAlert Live will be back in Orlando.  I suggest you plan for it right now!  I want your success, and Ken really wants your success.  Let’s make jvAlert Live so HUGE that we need to move it into bigger hotels…

I am beginning to see a pattern emerging among the products that are succeeding and those that are flatlining. Being here on the front lines of the market, I get to see a lot of products launching, and I hear from a lot of people who are either selling or buying these products.

Everyone has an opinion as to why the market is flatter than last year. So do I.

The reason some products are flat and others sell out is what I call the copycat launch. Everyone else did this, so I am going to do it, too.

Hook Yourself A Big One!

Those people who have had amazing products that sold out quickly had a hook. They were offering something that had not been seen lately, or they had a different angle on that product. In one way or another, they put a spin on the product that made it different in the eyes of their customers, and their customers purchased it.

One of the people who does this well is Alex Jeffreys. I had an opportunity to see his mind in action was for the launch of Easy Profit Auctions. In this product, Alex harnessed the power of eBay to build a list of prospects, buyers and niche customers. People are actually getting paid to build their lists. How cool is that?

Did You Get The License Plate Of That Truck?

I spent most of my day off today at the doctor or the store (I don’t remember which…lol). I really have been feeling run down lately, which is why I am looking for any witnesses with the license number of the truck…

I have gotten emails from JV Partners asking if I am going to promote for them, and from some of my community members that were concerned because they hadn’t received a promo recently. When I finally did break down and send one out, they celebrated by buying quite a few products…

I was beginning to think that Keith Wellman was using some of that Optin Voodoo on me because I hadn’t posted his product, yet. Sorry Keith, you will just have to wait your turn…

Speaking of Optin Voodoo…

First, I have to tell you about what Anik has that made his Y added counterpart come out in favor of his product. You see, tomorrow morning, you will be able to enroll in the training course that has Google, MSN and Yahoo all salivating greedily! That sound you hear in the background is the collective rubbing together of hands and heavy breathing at each of their respective corporate headquarters because they know that once Anik Singal starts training people in the finer arts of Pay Per Click Search engine promotions, they are going to get a HUGE spike in PPC sales.

You may remember that Anik burst on the scene a while back with Affiliate Classroom which is why we have so many Super Affiliates among us at all of the jvAlert Live events. I think it was the best thing that ever happened, because all of a sudden, Ken is filling his events with new faces who are just driving the sales right off the charts for a lot of product owners. What Anik has done for affiliate marketing is about to pale in comparison to the launch that is going to explode of the line tomorrow morning!

PPC Classroom is Anik’s best work to date, as he teaches us how to get our commission checks as big the carbon footprint of a fleet of Boeing 787’s using the Pay Per Click Search Engines (hence the happy dance going on at the big 3 search engines) to create a serious hands free income.

So what does the Y have to do with this? Well this launch has caused Yanik to whip out his large bonus and he is challenging the rest of us with it. I see a bonus fight in the air. I was going to whip out a bonus of my own, but I really didn’t want to humiliate all of the other marketers, since I was planning on launching my own product on September 25th.

Instead, I am going to be delaying the launch until October 11th (sorry Ross) because I want to have the launch in full swing in time for jvAlert Live, so I can report on it at the event. I am calling out some big names to help me with this, and we are expecting to change a lot of lives once we get them in the Infoproduct Creation Lab… which leaves me to coming up with a bonus at the last moment…

You Wanted To Hear It…

My email was abuzz with people tearing me a new one because I hadn’t promoted Alex Jeffreys’ latest offering Easy Profit Auctions… If Ken would have gotten word that I let one slip through, I’d be blogging on my own website… (Oh wait, since this is his website, I think he might read it) so here is my heartfelt apology for not getting this out to you sooner.

The best part is of course the forum, where you can talk about your successes and ask questions and people who are further ahead of you can help you. I can see how setting up this system will build me a huge list of lookers and buyers and even specialized buyers (niche).

I am going to walk my daughter through the training and have her go from knowing nothing about marketing online all the way through having a list she can market to. The real determining factor is not the course, because it is solid, but the work is totally up to you, because you still have to set it up.

Rick Raddatz Has The Capital Factor On His Side…

I just heard that Rick is having a webinar about his event in Denver, Colorado coming up on October 27th and 28th called the Capital Factor. Apparently, they’re bringing in 12 experts from around the country talking about all they ways to raise capital for a business trying to expand.

Then, they’ll have a full day of talking about what people are doing in marketing these days. One of the lines that caught my eye was when they said “what worked five years ago” doesn’t work today.

I just got a Phishing attempt today…

It was funny.  A Bank was telling me that they were sharing photos with me.

Photos from a bank?  Were they sending me pictures of my money?  I know I like the customer service aspect of having them send me pictures of the stacks of money sitting in my account.  Who wouldn’t want to see the pictures of their money?

But I had a sobering thought.  If phishers are using tactics like that, they must be working.  Which again begs me to ask: Are People Really That Stupid That They Would Fall For Something So Obviously Scammy?

I assume the answer is yes.  That is why irons have a sticker on them that say “do not iron clothes while wearing them.”

Scary thought.  The good part is that only smart people come to this blog. The stupid ones are too busy sending the Nigerian Engineer their bank account information (why is the Nigerian Engineer using an email address from the UK?) so that they can help him transfer $15 million dollars that the engineer secretly collected over the last five years by taking a sponge full of crude oil home in a ziploc bag in his lunchbox every day.
(Are people really that stupid?)…

Who Is Trying To Get Your Kid?

Ok, thanks for doing that for me.  The results are speaking for themselves here.

We are dealing with a stupid population out there.  The kind that are easily fooled by simple emails from paypal telling them that they need to update their information because their home address is older than 2 weeks…  Our educational system is to blame for this, and I will spare you the speech I have already shared with my wife about the educational system, because my daughter has only been in public school for one year and one month, and already the high school she is going to has failed to give her a Math class. That is two years of High School and no math class?  I guess they want to ensure that she does really good on the English part of the FCAT (some ignorant testing thing that they do here to make sure the school can continue to get funding from my tax dollars…).

Public school is a freaking joke, they do NOTHING to prepare kids for the real world.  They are only there to keep kids busy while the parents are out working a job.  Oh, and to get the kids ready to work in a job, by making sure they know what time to get up and how to be dressed and at work (I mean school) on time.

But do schools tell children about how to avoid sexual predators?  I think they teach kids more about how to use a condom than they teach about safety.  So what the heck are we supposed to do when our education system teaches kids how to be victims and Hollywood teaches people how to be killers and perverts?

Joyce Jackson to the rescue.  I think they need to make this a requirement in every school.  Joyce teaches children the right way to avoid predators and she enables parents to do this right at home!  You can’t leave this up to the government to do.  Do it yourself.  Get together with parents in your neighborhood and teach all of the kids using Joyce’s materials.  I recommend that you form your own Keeping Kids Safe Group in your community and do classes at your library!  You can make a difference in your community, and the life you save could be the one that makes a difference in the world.

Get on the Keeping Kids Safe Bandwagon, because our children are our legacy, and they are supposed to outlive us… I know I don’t want to attend any of my children’s funerals.  I am sure nobody here does.  Get Keeping Kids Safe Today!

Step Away from The Soapbox, Micheal, And Nobody Gets Hurt!

I guess you can tell that I feel a little strongly about this.  Internet Marketing is only a means to spending more time with my own family, and I encourage you to look at why you are doing this.  If you don’t have a reason that is bigger than your obstacles, the obstacles will win every time.

This month is going to be one of those that will make you dizzy from all the products hitting the market.  Jeff Wellman has one coming up, I have one the following week ( and I know I will have your help with that one right?) and Keith Wellman and James Jackson the week after that.  This is great news for the consumer, because the products are out there, and they are better than ever.  Each person launching has years worth of previous products to get inspiration from and more and more experts are raising their hands to be interviewed!  I was so excited to see how many people said yes to me when I asked to interview them for my Extreme Product Explosion!  You will be pleasantly surprised by the amazing content that I am getting.

Alan Bechtold said this the other day and started a fury in the blogs of some other marketers!  I heard that Jeff and Lori, “The Dynamic Duo of Content” are fuming and they lambasted Alan on their new blog.  I want to hear him out, because after all I am a uniter not a divider!  I have a lot of friends in the Web 2.0 Camp, so I am not very quick to accept Alan’s Word as gospel, but I will listen to him on his webinar on Thursday Night!
Sounds like the Webinar may end up with a duel at the end!
